Storage technologies play an important role in today’s computing infrastructure. With choice of various technologies and protocols, one of the challenges faced today by organizations is what technology to choose? How well it will scale? Is it secure? We at Agni Information systems analyzed the business requirements for a large aerospace/automotive design firm that required a cost effective Storage infrastructure that will meet their requirements of fault tolerance ( RAID 0/1/10/5 ), security, scalability, availability and manageability. Leveraging on open source solutions, storage architects at Agni designed and implemented an unified storage solution using Server and Storage chassis from one of the OEMs. The solution provided the client with a scalable storage array that was capable of providing iSCSI, CIFS, and NFS features. iSCSI protocol was configured for file and application servers while NFS was used to provide storage for FTP server. Built based on tiered storage architecture, the client was able to choose the required type of drive based on his requirements for online storage and archival. This solution provided the client with a better RoI.
